Daily Islamic Supplications

Have you ever thought about being connected to God? Have you questioned the relationship between you and Allah and thought whether maybe you need to communicate more? Allah said:

"And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided. {186}" Surah Al-Baqarah.

The relationship between people and Allah is two-sided. When you talk to Allah through your prayers and Dua, Allah gives you the best response out of your demands, Allah chooses what is best for you. We may not be fully capable of understanding the choices that Allah makes for us, but the one sure thing is that it's for the best.

Dua is not only a way to communicate with Allah, but it's also a way to worship him, and a way to feel his presence whenever we need him. "And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible. {60}" Surah Ghafir.

In this article, we will take you into a journey of Duas written in the Holy Quran that the prophets of Allah used, and how Allah responded to them.

"And Jonah, when he stormed out in fury, thinking We had no power over him. But then He cried out in the darkness, “There is no god but You! Glory to You! I was one of the wrongdoers!”{87}" Surah Al-Anbiya

The Previous Ayah (verse) is about the prophet of Allah Jonah (Younis). As he got mad at his people who he was supposed to guide, so Allah wanted to teach him a lesson. The prophet Younis got trapped inside a whale's stomach, and in the darkness, he asked Allah for forgiveness, admitting his mistake of giving up his people, so Allah responded: "So We responded to him and saved him from the distress. And thus do We save the believers. {88}" Surah Al-Anbya

That teaches us that just admitting our wrong, and going back to Allah, gets Allah to rain down his mercy upon us.

[Moses] said, "My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance] {25} And ease for me my task {26} And untie the knot from my tongue {27} That they may understand my speech. {28}" Surah Taha.

When the prophet Moses started his journey to tell people about Allah, he asked for Allah's support that he could bear the way his people respond and that he could make them understand his message from Allah and take it as it is. [ Allah ] said, "You have been granted your request, O Moses. {36} And We had already conferred favor upon you another time {37}" Surah Taha.

And [mention] Zechariah, when he called to his Lord, "My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while you are the best of inheritors.{89}" Surah Al-Anbiya

Back at the time, the prophet Zechariah (who is a relative of the Virgin Mary) wasn't able to give birth. He was so old, and his wife was barren. He asked Allah to make him and his wife able to have children, so they won't be lonely as they grow older. Allah gave him what he asked, and they gave birth to the prophet Yahya.

"So We responded to him, and We gave to him Yahya and amended for him his wife. Indeed, they used to hasten to good deeds and supplicate Us in hope and fear, and they were to Us humbly submissive. {90}" Surah Al-Anbya

And [mention] Job, when he called to his Lord, "Indeed, adversity has touched me, and you are the Most Merciful of the merciful. {83}" Surah Al-Anbiya

The prophet Job was known for his patience. A lot has happened to him. He lost everything, and he got sick that he couldn't walk. However, he worshiped Allah and waited for his kindness. He prayed to Allah and asked him to pour his mercy upon him, and Allah responded.

"So We responded to him and removed what afflicted him of adversity. And We gave him [back] his family and the like thereof with them as a mercy from Us and a reminder for the worshippers [of Allah ]. {84}" Surah Al-Anbya

“Our Lord, and send among them a messenger from themselves who will recite to them your verses and teach them the Book and wisdom and purify them. Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise.{129}” Surah Al-Baqarah

Ibrahim (the grandfather of the messenger of Allah, Muhammad) asked Allah to make one of his grandchildren a prophet that can teach people about him (Allah) and his book (the Holy Quran). Allah sent us Muhammad (blessings and peace be upon him) as he said: "It is He who has sent among the unlettered a Messenger from themselves reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book and wisdom - although they were before in clear error. {2}" Surah Al Jumu'ah.
