7 Benefits of learning and reading the Quran

For me, reading and understanding the Holy Quran is the most delightful spiritual journey. I always find all the answers I seek. When I feel bad about something, then I genuinely go open Al-Mushaf (The Holy Quran), I feel peace, I feel like Allah has found me, and it makes me believe in Allah and the prophet Muhammad more and more. No human being can write such beautiful words. So, when you read the Holy Quran, you know you definitely in the presence of our great creator, Allah.

However, regardless of my opinion, as a Muslim, you should know yourself how beneficial it's to read the Holy Quran, and here are 7 benefits of I believe that will help you start your journey with the Holy Quran.

And He found you lost and guided [you]. {7} Surah Ad-Duha

In this Ayah, Allah says that he guided our prophet, Muhammad, through his life, as to enlighten us with Islam. And from here, Allah has left us the Holy Quran to guide us through our lives. Every one of us gets lost all the time, and feels like looking for answers, because of that, we are lucky to have the Holy Quran to help us find signs, pieces of advice from the history and rules to make our lives better and help us get through.

Quran heals your soul with peace and mercy

"And we send down of the Qur'an that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.{78}" Surah Al-Isra

I have always thought that part of Allah's forgiveness is when you learn how to forgive yourself. Allah is merciful. His mercy encompasses everything. You will know and feel that when you move between his verses, and this will help you to know what it takes to gain his satisfaction, then you will feel content and you will be able to move on with your life.

Quran gets you out of the darkness

"Alif, Lam, Ra. [This is] a Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that you might bring mankind out of darknesses into the light by permission of their Lord - to the path of the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy. {1}" Surah Ibrahim

The more you learn in the Holy Quran, the more you learn about the sagacity of Allah, the more meaningful you make of your life. Allah gave us a gem (the Holy Quran) that is full of words of his wisdom, and his rules to help us understand life and make the best out of it and seek a better life in the hereafter, so why don't we seize this chance?

You learn a lot from the narratives of the prophets and the messengers of Allah

"There was certainly in their stories a lesson for those of understanding. Never was the Qur'an a narration invented, but a confirmation of what was before it and a detailed explanation of all things and guidance and mercy for a people who believe. {111}" Surah Yusuf

The Holy Quran is full of stories of our pacemaker, Prophet Muhammad, other prophets and messengers of Allah, and the people around them who lived back then. Most of the narratives include hard situations and decisions they had to make, their prayers to Allah, and how he answered them. When you read these stories, you get to learn the lessons that our early ancestors learned, and it will be even better because you now know what your deeds might lead to, based on these insightful stories.

It's Sunnah!

"There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often. {21}" Surah Al Ahzab

Following what our prophet, Muhammad, used to do is one of the best things any Muslim would do. He used to read the Holy Quran and follow the guidance of Allah, hence, following him by learning and reading the Holy Quran raises your balance of good deeds and gets you closer to Allah.

Say, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. {31}" Surah Al Imran

It paves your way to heaven

"Establish prayer at the decline of the sun [from its meridian] until the darkness of the night and [also] the Qur'an of dawn. Indeed, the recitation of dawn is ever witnessed.{78} And from [part of] the night, pray with it as additional [worship] for you; it is expected that your Lord will resurrect you to a praised station.{79}" Surah Al Isra

Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite the Qur'an, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection." (Sahih Muslim)
