Since you have reached here, that means you're already interested in learning about the Holy Quran. Linguistically, the word "Quran" derived from the Arabic verb "Iqra" which means recite (read with good understanding, grasping of the meanings, and following). Allah has sent us, Muslims, the Holy Quran to guide us through life and give us a better understanding of what is a good deed and what is bad or wrong, in which if we follow, it will lead us to heaven. Allah said: "Indeed, this Qur'an guides to that which is most suitable and gives good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward. {9} Surah Al- Isra. Also said: "Alif, Lam, Ra. [This is] a Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that you might bring mankind out of darknesses into the light by permission of their Lord - to the path of the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy. {1}" Surah Ibrahim.

Why should you learn the Holy Quran?

Other than being a guide for Muslims, the Holy Quran has so many other benefits such as:

Healing Tired Souls.

Reading the Holy Quran is a spiritual gift that connects us to Allah, and the more connected to God you are, the more the void in your soul is filled. Allah said: "And We send down of the Qur'an that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss. {82}" Surah Al-Isra.

It's Allah's miracle to the earth.

The linguistics and the expressions used in the Holy Quran are just non-comparable, the mistakeless documenting of Allah's instructions and miracles, these two things are not human- made. Allah said: "Say, if mankind and the jinn gathered in order to produce the like of this Qur'an, they could not produce the like of it, even if they were to each other assistants. {88}" Surah Al-Isra.

What are the approaches to learn?

Well, there's memorizing and there's reciting. Memorizing the Holy Quran is about training your memory to recall verses of the Holy Quran. It's believed that people who train their brains to remember things have a better memory than those who don't. Reciting the Holy Quran is about reading with good understanding, and following what you get from every verse, and avoiding what Allah forbids. Do you want to start learning Quran now? What if I don't speak Arabic?

In this case, we recommend you starting with Noorani Qaida. Noorani Qaida's method based on learning how to pronounce letters and how to connect these letters to spell a whole word using sentences quoted from the Holy Quran. That way, you learn Arabic and how to read the Holy Quran at the same time.

Don't feel that the road is long, Allah rewards you for every step you walk in this journey. Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "One who is proficient in reciting the Qur'an is associated with the noble, pious (angel) scribes. As for he who stammers when reciting the Qur'an and find it difficult for him, he will be granted a double reward" (Sahih Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Read our article about Noorani Qaida to learn more.

What's Next?

The last step is becoming a certified Quran Narrator, which can be achieved by holding an Ijazah. To hold an Ijazah is to have the authority to narrate and teach the Holy Quran, Hadith, and Islamic law, and you can't have that license unless an Ijazah holder gives it to you.

Remember the Hadith: Uthman ibn `Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best among you [Muslims] are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it." (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

Quran for Kids

Quran for kids: Benefits and Top Tips

You might have been thinking that there's some certain age for kids to start listening to the Holy Quran, but the truth is that you can start with them when they're not born yet! Babies inside mothers' uterus can hear and feel everything. They can distinguish voices, and that means you can start introducing what the Quran sounds like to them when they're that young.

But why does it even matter?

It's believed that kids who memorize the Holy Quran have much better writing skills than their peers, as they store much vocabulary in their minds to use. It's also believed that they have a better memory due to the practice of memorizing!

In addition to the mentioned scientific reasons, our children get used to the things they learn or practice when they're young. I mean, if you raise them to the practice of watching tv, they will hold on to it, and if you raise them to the habit of memorizing the Holy Quran, they will always get back to it.

"Indeed, this Qur'an guides to that which is most suitable and gives good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward. {9}" Surah Al-Isra

The Holy Quran is the best guide for knowing what is right and what is evil. If you aim to raise a disciplined human being, you should consider teaching your child the Holy Quran. However, before you teach them, you should make them like it and want to do it.

How to make kids like memorizing the Holy Quran?

  • Talk your child into the beauty of it: Talking to your children with a peaceful and lovable voice tone increases the chances they get convinced of what you're saying because kids are super sensitive. You might also need to talk about Allah and mention some of his traits like mercy, forgiveness, and peace. Mention how it's good to follow his lead and talk a lot about heaven and how beautiful it is (you might need to read about that yourself. Hint: "Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - indeed, We will not allow being lost the reward of any who did well in deeds. {30}Those will have gardens of perpetual residence; beneath them, rivers will flow. They will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and will wear green garments of fine silk and brocade, reclining therein on adorned couches. Excellent is the reward, and good is the resting place. {31}" Surah Al-kahf).
  • Don't let your child do it on his own: Kids get bored quickly. They mostly feel bad when they imagine that they're doing an assigned task while other kids are playing. I recommend inviting other Muslim kids you know to sit and learn the Holy Quran with your children. You can also gather all of your children to sit and practice, and make sure to not punish any of them by staying and memorizing the Holy Quran on their own. Do not use the practice of memorizing the Holy Quran as a punishment, not even if they make mistakes related to it like forgetting Ayahs or preferring to play than committing to the Quran class. Allah wouldn't want that. Besides, it will make them hate it and nobody wants that.
  • Create a reward system: Celebrate the day they finish a particular part or surah. Get them presents and tell them how proud of them you are. Telling your children that they're doing a wonderful job, makes them willing to do more.

What are the best ways to help kids memorize the Holy Quran?

  1. Do it with them: Engage your children whenever you listen to the Holy Quran and in the sessions when you sit to memorize. Let them help you practice and ask them if they want to practice themselves. Help each other keep the habit and make it a thing you're doing together. Make a specific time for memorizing the Holy Quran during the days and commit to it. Behave as a colleague to your kids, respect them, and give each of you the same rights. For example, don't cancel the session because you are a busy parent then expect your child to be happily obliged to the commitment.
  2. Consider a professional tutor: an instructor with experience would give so much help, especially if the class is for kids of the same age, this will help your child learn professionally and encourage them as they see their peers doing the same. If you consider this option, contact us, we are Al Azhar certified tutors, experienced with teaching kids and elders the Holy Quran using the best motivate techniques.
  3. Make it simple and delightful: Start with the shortest surahs to make them feel the accomplishment. Something like 5 verses (ayahs) each session will do. Don't forget to give a simple reward after each session and after they make great progress.

At Nour Al Quran, we hold competitions during the classes and reward the best students to motivate them. We also use the best memorizing techniques with both kids and elders. If you are interested to learn the Holy Quran or make your kids learn, contact us today to get a free trial for your kid.
